Course Objectives

The purpose of this training is to move beyond the basic training of Massage Therapy for Pregnancy, and to explore some of the specific issues faced by families who have complications of their pregnancy. This course has been developed from the 10+ years of onsite hospital clinical experience that has been gained by hundreds of students and Massage Therapists who have participated in the Perinatal Massage Therapy Hospital trainings by Trimesters: Massage Therapy Education since 1995 at Women’s College Hospital/Sunnybrook & Women’s College Health Sciences Centre & North York General Hospital. Hundreds of pregnant families have benefited from the hands-on skills of students and therapists who have provided care during this time frame. The participant will learn about the physical and emotional aspects facing these clients at critical junctures in their lives, and will develop a comprehensive knowledge base from which to provide the safest and most effective Massage Therapy care possible. As well, the therapist will develop increased skills needed to work as part of the hospital team while having clear understanding of their Scope of Practice, Standards of Care within the Hospital, and the ability to contribute in very constructive ways to the well-being of hospital patients and staff alike.

Prerequisite: Trimesters' 20 hour training, Massage Therapy for Pregnancy.
